AI flight plan goes for a toss
Day 4: 135 of 165 domestic flights cancelled; planes borrowed from Kingfisher
New Delhi, April 30
With the pilots’ strike into its fourth day, the woes of the country’s flagship carrier, Air India, continued, forcing the cash-strapped airline to cancel most of its domestic flights and take two Kingfisher planes on wet lease to ferry stranded passengers.

PAC battle reaches Speaker’s doorstep
Joshi submits 2G report, wants it to be tabled in Parliament
New Delhi, April 30
The political battle between the UPA and the BJP over the draft PAC report on 2G scam reached Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar’s doorstep today with chairman Murli Manohar Joshi sending it to her through a courier and Congress member KS Rao handing over a letter to the Speaker protesting Joshi’s conduct as the PAC chairman. Today was the last day for this PAC.

Arunachal CM’s chopper missing

A helicopter of Pawan Hans Limited with Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and four others, including two pilots on board, went missing after it had taken off from Tawang helipad to the state capital Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh.

Relief to Army officers deputed to DGQA
Chandigarh, April 30
Granting relief to a section of Army officers who were placed at a disadvantage on being deputed to the Directorate General Quality Assurance (DGQA), the Chandigarh Bench of the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) has held that conditions of service cannot be altered retrospectively to the detriment of officers. Allowing a petition filed by a Colonel, the tribunal has held that the new policy for permanent secondment to DGQA promulgated in April 2010 would not apply to officers permanently seconded prior to that date.

Elahi to be Pak deputy PM
Islamabad, April 30
Pakistan’s ruling PPP and opposition PML-Q have firmed up their plan to form a “national reconciliation government” in which senior PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi will be appointed Deputy Premier. The plan was given the final shape during a meeting yesterday between PPP chief and President Asif Ali Zardari and PML-Q head Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.

Gold zooms to Rs 23,175
New Delhi, April 30
Gold prices surged to a new peak and crossed the Rs 23,000 mark in the national capital today on sustained buying by speculators, triggered by a strong rally in overseas markets. Silver, however, dropped due to reduced offtake. The yellow metal spurted by Rs 655 to all-time high of Rs 23,175 per 10 grams.

The software giant Infosys Technologies today announced appointment of a new Chairman and CEO and indicated that other important changes in the company are in the offing. While Narayana Murthy’s retirement was due, having reached the age of 65 years, the company said it decided to carry out other changes simultaneously so that the restructuring was accomplished in one go.
