Doon murder case: Decayed left foot recovered
Dehradun, December 15 The police took Rajesh Gulati along with them to the Mussoorie Road where he had thrown pieces of the body of his wife after killing her. The police took him also to Shiv Mandir, but couldn’t find anything there. The cops that only recovered a part of the body, which was badly infected by bacteria, think that some pieces might have been eaten up by wild animals or hawks. The police through DNA test will try to match the body parts of the victim. With this the police investigation seems to be completed. Meanwhile, the police really had a tough time, while looking for the pieces of body in jungle area. The police had to go deep down to the rivulet in the jungle area. The police had gone to the place this morning and returned late in the evening. Meanwhile, the person who did the post mortem of Anupama’s body said this was the first such case in his life. He came out four times while doing the post mortem due to the stink that was emanating from the body. He also found it hard to cut the parts of the body as they were very hard due to being kept in the freezer two months. Maternal uncle gets kids’ custody
The court today gave interim custody of the two children, whose mother Anupama was murdered by her husband Rajesh Gulati, to their maternal uncle Sujan Kumar Pradhan. Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Kanwar Amaninder Singh has given December 24 as the next hearing date. He also said the two children be produced in the court every month. The court said if Gulati wanted to meet the kids, he could meet them on the fourth Saturday of every month. It was expected in the morning that the father and brother-in-law of Gulati would also come to the court. But they didn’t come. However, Gulati was produced in the court as he had requested the court to let him be allowed in the court whenever the decision on his children’s custody was given.

Family couldn’t smell rat for two months
Dehradun, December 15 It was only after about two months that the family felt something wrong at the bottom since they couldn’t talk to Anupama for long. Following this, her brother Sujan Kumar Pradhan came to Dehradun on December 12. Pradhan after reaching Doon sent an e-mail to his sister to contact her as he was in the city. But the e-mail kept coming from her, which was being replied by Gulati that everything was well between them and they didn’t want to contact the in-laws. Same sort of repeated replies made Pradhan suspicious and he lodged a complaint with the police and the truth could come to light later. The police think that since Gulati was an engineer he must have hacked his wife’s e-mail ID. However, it is unclear whether Anupama herself had given the password to Gulati. |

Murdered Anupama’s tale of sufferings
Dehradun, December 15 “We told her under the current circumstances she should leave Gulati. We also offered to give her a house, money and help her get a good job in an IT firm in Delhi, but she didn’t agree to come back,” said Sujan Kumar Pradhan, her brother. “She used to speak less with her mother since the mother used to sometimes rebuke her. So she mostly used to talk to me. I had told her she should leave Gulati if he had some another woman in his life. But she wanted to settle everything considering the future of her kids,” Pradhan said adding that Rajan, brother of Gulati, had himself informed him about his affair with a woman in Kolkata, who also has a child from her husband. Pradhan said Gulati had a property dispute with his brother Rajan, who asked him to leave the Kolkata woman and get back to his family life. Pradhan told The Tribune, Gulati wouldn’t allow his wife to talk to her family and often beat her. Even Anupama had told her family members not to call her and that only she would contact them as her husband used to fight over the issue. The brother of the brutally murdered woman also rubbished the claims of Gulati that he used to give Rs 20,000 per month to Anupama, and said she wouldn’t even get money if she wanted to buy something. This was the reason, Pradhan said, he would send money to her through Anupama’s friend in the USA. Anupama’s has two elder brothers. Another brother who is living in Singapore came to Delhi after hearing the sad news. He couldn’t come to Doon since his parents in Delhi are very old and need help and support. Father of Anupama is a retired government doctor and the mother a housewife. |

BJP govt has failed state people: Arya
Dehradun, December 15 “The state government has spent Rs 2,000 crore out of the total budget of Rs 6,800 crore till December. It shows that there would be hurry to spend the budget in the coming three months compromising on the quality of works and leading to pilferages,” he alleged. The state government has been misleading the people on the help provided by the Union Government. The Union Government provides grants up to 90 per cent on various schemes but the state government has failed miserably to take advantage of the schemes. “The state government for the ongoing Central schemes have utilised only 20 per cent of the amount and the rest 80 per cent of the Central grants have lapsed,” he said. The Uttarakhand Congress Chief said his party would launch an agitation to make the state government accountable to each and every penny given by the Central Government for disaster relief. On being asked about the formation of his new executive, Arya said the state executive of the Congress would be announced within 15 days. |

2 held for poisoning fish in Gang Canal
Haridwar, December 15 Fear of poisonous river water running into the Jhilmil lake via the Gang Canal is also being expressed. Wild animals quench their thirst from this lake. Notably, some residents of Tatwala village mixed poisonous liquid into the conserved lake of Jhilmil to net thousands of fish. This crime took place in approximately 600-metre area of the river bed where fish are found in abundance. The incident came into light when some local people found thousands of fish dead in the lake. Speaking to The Tribune, District Forest Officer Gopal Singh Rana said four villagers of Tatwala village were primarily involved in this act and under the Wild Life Act they had been charged and raids were being conducted for their arrest. Meanwhile, the officials are waiting for the sample report of the water and the dead aquatic species which have been sent to Dehradun and Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh)-situated laboratories. While animal lovers have expressed fear of such acts being occurring in regular intervals, they have demanded strict steps to prevent such acts in future. Divisional officer KS Rawat stated samples of both river water and lake water had been taken and reports were awaited for the necessary action in the case. Jhilmil Jheel, a wetland, was declared Swamp Deer Conservation Reserve by President APJ Abdul Kalam five years ago and is spread in more than 3,000 hectares of area falling in Haridwar forest division.
