Bhankarpur (Dera Bassi), September 28
The discovery of five suspected bombs in this village, on the Chandigarh-Ambala highway, this morning led to panic in the area. The explosives, which thankfully turned out to be only “high intensity crackers”, were declared “harmless” by the police after detailed analysis by the CFSL and bomb experts.

However, the discovery of the explosives, coming close on the heels of the Delhi’s Mehrauli blast, created a sensation in the area. As the news was flashed on televisions, panic spread in the entire region with rumours about discovery of some more “bombs” even in Chandigarh.

The ‘bombs’, ball-shaped devices (each weighing between 100 and 200 grams), were discovered by a resident, Jasbir, at about 9 am and the police was informed immediately.

While experts initially dubbed the explosives to be “low intensity bombs”, but later the Mohali police rushed to clarify that there was no need to panic as they were nothing but “high-intensity crackers”.
