PSEB employees protest privatisation

Wearing black robes as a mark of protest, the employees of the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) today staged a dharna at the suburban circle in response to a call given by the state committee of Technical Services Union. The protesters were raising their voice against policies of privatisation being pursued by the board and victimisation of employees.

2 industrialists booked for power theft

Continuing their tirade against power thieves, the police has booked two more industrialists on the complaint of the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) to the effect that they were indulging in power theft at their manufacturing units.

GADVASU students agree to accommodate freshers

Students of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), majority of them the hostellers, are up in the arms against authorities over the issue of accommodating new entrants in the hostel. To mount pressure on the university management, many of these students did not even attend their classes at the campus yesterday. The matter was resolved after director, Students Welfare, intervened asked seniors to share their rooms with new students for a few months.

‘Muscle power’ rules educational institutes

7-yr jail term for rape

The court of sessions judge G. K. Rai has sentenced Jaswinder singh, alias Jassa, of Bagha Purana village, Moga, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for seven years in a rape case. The convict was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 2,000.

Chief judicial magistrate Lachhman Singh has granted bail to Dr A P S Gambhir, who was arrested under the provisions of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act and the Pre-Natal Sex Determination Act.
