Diarrhoea: 17 more hospitalised

Hundreds of fresh cases of diarrhoea came to light on Wednesday at Lohara village, near here, where an alarm was sounded by the district administration after the death of a local resident during treatment in the district hospital on Monday night.

Vedanti loses post of Granthi

Sikh scholar Kharak Singh dead
Chandigarh, August 6
Dr Kharak Singh, a Sikh scholar, passed away at Mohali today after a prolonged illness. He was 86. He will be cremated tomorrow at Mohali. Author of many books, Dr Kharak Singh, was a founder member of the Institute of Sikh Studies. He also worked as adviser in the FAO at Rome. He did doctorate in agriculture economics from Ohio University in the USA. Dr Kharak Singh was known as an authority on Sikhism. He was also convener of the International Sikh Confederation.He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.

In the case registered against a mob of about 150 persons in connection with an alleged attack on the local Singla Surgical Hospital after the death of Neeru Goyal in the hospital on July 12, the local police has arrested four persons, residents of Sherpur village. Neeru was married to Gauri Shankar of Sherpur.
