Lok Sabha Elections
Rohtak, July 26 Despite the BJP’s dismal performance in the last state Assembly elections as well as the recent bypoll for three Assembly seats, the party’s state leadership was till recently adamant on going it alone instead of forging a poll alliance, atleast in the Lok Sabha elections. Indicating a marked shift from the state BJP’s earlier stance of going solo, party’s state unit president Atam Prakash Manchanda said here today that the party would consider electoral alliance for the next Lok Sabha poll if the party’s central leadership so desired. Manchanda said though the state chapter of the party wished to contest the Lok Sabha poll on its own, it could forge a poll alliance if told by the party’s Central leadership. He was addressing a press conference after a meeting of the district presidents and general secretaries of the party at the state BJP headquarters here today. “As of now, our top priority is to strengthen the party organisation right to the booth level so as to be better-placed at the time of negotiations for electoral alliance with other parties,” Manchanda said, adding that the party would organise conferences of booth committees in all 90 Assembly constituencies of the state in August. Similar conferences would also be organised in Lok Sabha constituencies for which booth committee members, party workers and sympathisers would be invited, he maintained. Manchanda disclosed that the party would also organise rath yatras in all the 10 Lok Sabha constituencies of the state to apprise the people of the party’s policies and
programmes. |
Cong holds training camp for party workers
Panipat, July 26 Alva sensitised party workers to shed internal differences and work jointly to consolidate the party’s position in the state for the Lok Sabha elections. Hinting at Karnal MP Arvind Sharma’s move to first abandon the party and then revive his decision, the party general-secretary said party loyalists, who attempted to leave the party, soon realised their mistakes and rejoined the Congress. She said the civil nuclear deal would be one of the main issues during the next Lok Sabha elections. She claimed that as every section of society was in favour of this deal, the Congress would again come to power. The voting in Parliament had ended the political instability after the Left parties withdrew its support to the government and the Congress-led UPA government emerged stronger. Alva also praised the leadership of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda saying that the state had been taking rapid strides in every field of development and the state was on the threshold of becoming number one state in the country. Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda condemned the BJP for its role during the debate on the N-deal issue in Parliament. He said though the opposition was in favour of the civil nuclear deal with the USA but it tried to use the issue for political gains. The Chief Minister said the N-deal was in favour of the country, as it would help in meeting the energy demand of every sector of economy in future. Listing various development and welfare schemes launched by the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre as well as in the state, the CM said all sections of society, including farmers, Scheduled Castes, students and women, had been taken care of by the Congress.
