Residents sweat it out without power
Water scarcity adds to their misery

With failure on part of the Punjab State Electricity Board to control constant fluctuation followed by power failure, the situation has become grim for domestic power consumers. Residents of Sarabha Nagar remained without electricity for two consecutive nights as there was power failure

Long power cuts being imposed everyday have led to severe potable water scarcity in different parts of the city. Water supply remains hit due to power cuts during supply hours. The situation had worsened after the MC reduced timings of the water supply a month ago.

Two residents of village Kaddon, including a woman, were injured when a group of miscreants allegedly attacked them with sharp-edged weapons late last night.

Mobile snatched
Khanna, July 25

Some unidentified miscreants snatched mobile phone of Chandeep, a resident of Model Town. He was on his way home when the incident took place late last night. The victim failed to identify motorcycle-borne youths who sped away after snatching his mobile phone. The incident took place near Karan Colony. A case in this connection has been registered. — TNS

Sales tax  dept starts deemed assessment
Ludhiana, July 25

Sales tax department has started Deemed Assessment Scheme under which assessees can avail the benefits by applying till July 31. "The ones who could not get their assessment done for 2004-05 due to varied reasons, like unavailability of required documents, can get it done now by applying on Form 30 A till July 31," informed Jatinder Khurana, president, Taxation Young Lawyers Association. — TNS

Kindergarten students of Jesus' Sacred Heart School, South City, celebrated pool party here today. The students enjoyed a lot in splash pool and artificial rain shower. Sweets were also distributed to students. Principal Anju Banga told the students about the features of Sawan month.
