Chandigarh, July 5
Punjab government today announced, admission to MBBS and other related courses against all seats, except NRI seats, in medical, dental and other colleges in Punjab will be made by centralised admission committee at the counselling to be held by it.

It means, there will be no separate college level counselling for admission against management quota seats. Earlier, private colleges were authorised to hold counselling for admission against management quota seats. Last date for receiving the applications from candidates seeking admission has been extended to July 10.

However, parents, whose wards are in the consideration zone for admission to MBBS and other medical courses, had objected to such arrangement pleading it would cause harassment to their wards and put additional financial burden on them. Private colleges have fixed heavy fee even for submitting application against management quota seats.

The Tribune, had highlighted this problem and objections of parents regarding admission against management quota seats. Parents had stated the wards will have to apply separately in all private colleges for admission against the management quota seats and will have to deposit fee for admission even if that college may not be to the liking of the ward.

Baba Farid University of Health Sciences today announced that on the direction of the medical education minister, the provision of admission at the level of centralised admission committee had been made against all seats except the NRI seats.

Now applications for admission against all sort of seats, including government quota seats and management quota seats, except NRI seats, will be accepted by Baba Farid university. Those who have already applied to the university in this regard will also be considered for management quota seats for all colleges and courses. And the candidates, who have not applied yet, have been advised by the university to deposit applications personally till the extended date to avoid postal delay.

Meanwhile, the university said it had cancelled candidature of 296 candidates who had not come forward for identification.
