HUDA seals fate of 100 traders
Hisar, December 21 While the affected traders lodged their protest against the move, the HUDA officials maintained that they were following specific directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. A number of shop owners of the Tosham road blocked the traffic at the Dabra Chowk to register their protest. The protesters asserted that the HUDA authorities had no right to seal their shops as they had been paying the tax to the local municipal council. The HUDA Estate Officer, Mr Jai Krishan Abhir and the DSP, Mr Tejvir Singh, rushed to the spot and tried to reason out the issue with the traders. Stating that they were only following court's orders, they requested the shopkeepers to cooperate. However, the traders maintained that they had valid papers to run their commercial establishments and had been paying due taxes. At this, they were told to submit their cases along with the documents with the District Town Planner. |
School function or occasion to flatter CM ?
Mor Majra (Karnal), December 21 In his “new” role at the function, State’s Education Minister, Phool Chand Mullana “entertained” the gathering by mimicking the “rude” behaviour of a former Chief Minister of the state.
He also equated Mr Hooda with an “avtaar” and who had been to eliminate ‘bad’ elements from Haryana. Mr Hooda was here to lay the foundation stone of Arya Girls college and to inaugurate the newly constructed hostel and administrative block at the Arya Kanya Gurukul. Independent MLA from Pai, Tejinder Pal Singh Mann, who is also associated with the Gurukul, organised the function. Later Mr Hooda and a battery of MLAs and ministers who reached two hours late addressed a gathering on the school campus of 800 students and villagers. Absence of Dr Arvind Sharma, local MP, who otherwise attends all functions of the CM in his constituency remained a question. Most of the VIP guests including Cooperative Minister, Ms Meena Mandal and present MLAs focused on Mr Hooda and his family. They talked of Hooda’s political achievements and development projects being undertaken by the present regime. Political adviser to the CM, Prof Virender Singh also focused his entire speech praising Mr Hooda and his father. He ignored the girl students. Mr Hooda too focused on various achievements of his government. Stressing upon the need of job-oriented courses he announced to commence D. Pharmacy course at the Gurukul. He announced a Rs 10 lakh to the Gurukul and promised to start science and commerce classes for classes XI and XII at the charitable school from the coming season. Earlier, Mr Hooda inaugurated a tissue culture laboratory constructed at a cost of Rs 1.50 crore and Kisan Seva Kender constructed at a cost of Rs 18 lakh on the premises of Karnal co-operative sugar mills. He said the government had earmarked producing 30 lakh quintals of sugar in the current crushing season against 18 lakh quintals in in the previous year besides 325 lakh quintals of sugarcane would be crushed in the current season against 196 lakh quintals in the previous year. |
Gotra row unresolved, panchayat meeting today
Badhra (Bhiwani), December 21 SDM of Dadri subdivision S. S. Lohchab visited the village and met village elders. He asked them at least to lift the ban on the entry of the groom Ombir Singh’s parents. His plea was that the decision on Ombir Singh and his bride Saroj could be taken later. However, the villagers refused to yield saying the decision would be taken at a panchayat to be organised in the village tomorrow. Meanwhile, the deadline for the boy’s family to leave the village expired today. However, the only woman in the house of the boy’s father Hawa Singh Poonia stayed put with a police picket guarding the house round the clock. All other members of the family have gone underground following the family’s expulsion from the village by the panchayat on Sunday last. The ‘nakas’ put up by irate villagers stayed in place for the third day today. All vehicles entering or leaving the village were checked thoroughly by the villagers manning the ‘nakas’. The ‘nakas’ were erected on Tuesday to prevent any member of the expelled family from entering the village in violation of the panchayat’s diktat. Bhiwani SP Subhash Yadav said the police would maintain law and order at all costs and no one would be permitted to take law in his or her hands. He said there was adequate police presence in the area to take care of any eventuality. However, despite heavy police presence, the area continues to be tense. Meanwhile, preparations are on for tomorrow’s panchayat which would decide the future course of action. Villagers said the panchayat was unlikely to yield on the issue and in all likelihood the expulsion of the Poonias would be endorsed. There was no word today from the Poonia family regarding their plans. Earlier on Tuesday Ombir Singh’s mother had stated that they would approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court for relief and security. So far, there have been no reports that they have approached the court. The row erupted after the marriage of Hawa Singh’s son Ombir Singh to Saroj on December 10. The bride hails from a family in which a close female relative belongs to Sheoran gotra. By tradition she could not have been married in a Poonia family of the village. The villagers met Hawa Singh on November 28 to urge him to cancel the marriage. However, despite agreeing to do so, Hawa Singh went ahead with the marriage. |

Govt callous towards farmers’ plight: BKU
Panipat, December 21 This was stated by Mr Gurnam Singh, president of
BKU, Haryana, here today. The state president of the farmers’ organisation, while talking to mediapersons, announced that to air the grievances of the farmers and labour community a rally at Pipli would be held on March 9 next year. Though the state government had assured time and again that the interests of farmers would be protected at all costs, the farmers were harassed and humiliated by the state financial institutions to recover their debts, said Mr Gurnam Singh. At Bhiwani, a total of 1,116 farmers were issued the notices regarding attachment of their properties, informed the BKU leader. Similarly, at Panipat, more than 1,200 farmers were issued notices and the action was delayed only after the intervention of district administration when the farmers approached the authorities, said Mr Singh. Still the farmers were being humiliated in all parts of state by pasting posters at public places mentioning their names with amount of debts and the details of properties to be attached, rued the BKU president. If the state government did not stop this practice, the
farmers would be compelled to agitate and refuse to pay the debts, warned the farmer union leader. In addition to it, the farmers were agitated over the erratic power supply and increase in the charges domestic supply, added Mr Singh. The crop insurance for the crops produced in Haryana was one of the main demands of the farmers said Mr Singh. Similarly, keeping in view the financial position of farmers in the state, medical facility in the government hospitals should be provided free of cost to them, demanded the farmer leader. Further demanding that the MSP of wheat should be at least Rs 1,000, Mr Singh said it was imperative as the price of wheat in the open market was hovering around Rs 1300 in the country. |

Chandigarh, December 21 In a statement issued here today, Mr Nalvi, who is also a member of the SGPC from Kurukshetra, said siropas were presented to the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, and Mr Makkar, when they visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar yesterday, by an official of the Sri Darbar Sahib. While Dr Manmohan Singh accepted the siropa with full reverence and kept the same on his person during the time he remained in the Golden Temple complex, Mr Makkar removed the siropa immediately and returned it to the official who had presented it to him. Mr Nalvi claimed that this act of Mr Makkar, who is not an ordinary person but the President of the SGPC and well-versed with the Rehat Maryada concerning the presentation and acceptance of the siropa, "is highly violative of the Sikh Rehat Maryada." He said the Jathedars should immediately initiate action against Mr Makkar for not accepting the siropa in the manner prescribed in the Sikh Rehat Maryada.
