Sensex breaches 12,000 mark

Mumbai, September 14
Sensex breached the 12,000 mark for the first time today since May 18 though it closed lower later in the day.
After a high of 12,002, Sensex ended the day at 11,958. In the broader markets, Nifty surged 0.5 per cent or 17 points to end at 3471.

Among the main gainers today was ICICI Bank, which moved up over 3 per cent or Rs 19. Grasim Industries, Gujarat Ambuja Cements, Bajaj Auto, HLL and Dr Reddys Laboratories were the other gainers. The losers were led by Hero Honda, which slipped 1.6 per cent to close at Rs 765. HDFC, HDFC Bank, Reliance Energy, Bharti Airtel and NTPC were other key losers. — TNS
