Jobless youths clash with cops, many hurt

Unemployed youths clashed with policemen during a rally at Matka Chowk here this evening. Some of protesting youths and policemen were injured and hospitalised after the clash, which lasted over an hour.

The prosecution suffered a major blow in the case of murder against Devinder Singh Bhullar, who allegedly conspired to kill former SSP Chandigarh Sumedh Singh Saini, in a bomb blast, targeting his police convoy in Sector 17. The blast took place in 1991.

Recovery of loans from ex-ministers' pension

The Punjab Council of Ministers today approved the recovery of loan money from certain former Ministers by deducting the money from their pension in instalments. There are as many as eight former Ministers who have not returned the loan which they had secured to either buy cars or to build houses from the state government.
