Building bylaws for villages
Admn seeks public response
Chandigarh, August 23
The Chandigarh Administration has framed building by-laws for UT villages which will be applicable following their merger with the Municipal Corporation. The Administration has sought public response on the draft proposal of "Chandigarh Administration (erection and re-erection of building), building by-laws, 2006" for the planned and regulated growth of all villages.

Panchkula Extension II
Panchkula extension plan approved
Panchkula, August 23
The Panchkula District-Level Development Plan Committee, today, approved Panchkula Extension -II Township Development Plan along he Panchkula-Barwala highway. This decision was taken at a meeting of the committee chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Brijender Singh, here today. The Panchkula extension-II would include the development of 24 new sectors to cater to the ever-rising demand for land in the township and its non-availability under the present scheme of things.

Couple stands by love
Chandigarh, August 23
The family of a recently wed woman showed up at the District Courts to “convince” her to walk out on the inter-caste marriage. But Uma Aggarwal, the woman, told the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mr B.K. Mehta, that she was a major and had married the man by choice. The man, Santosh Kumar, belonging to a reserved category caste, also appeared before the ADSJ for an anticipatory bail on the charge of kidnapping levelled by Uma’s family.

Four community centres under police occupation
Mohali, August 23
In utter disregard of the welfare of the public, the police here has occupied four of the eight community centres for its own use, ignoring bookings by residents for social functions.

Mohali divided into three traffic zones
Mohali, August 23
To make the functioning of the traffic police more effective, the town has been divided into three zones and an official of the rank of Inspector would take care of each zone. Phases I to VI will fall in zone I, Phases IIIA, IIIB 1 and 2, Phase VII, Sectors 60, 61, 70 and 71 and Matour village will be part of zone II while Phases VIII to XI and Kumbra village will fall in zone III.

The Peoples Welfare Association has urged PUDA to install machinery at the water treatment plant so that Mohali could avail its share of water from the Phase IV of the Kajauli waterworks.

Mobiles, accessories stolen
Chandigarh, August 23
Mobile handsets and related accessories worth around Rs 54,000 were stolen from a shop in Sector 47-D last night. Thieves entered the shop after breaking an iron grill at the back of the shop. The owner of the shop said the thieves took away expensive mobiles and other electronic items. The police has registered a case.

Two held for flesh trade
Mohali, August 23
The police has arrested two women for allegedly running a flesh trade racket. According to the police, those arrested are Shahnaz and Lakhpreet Kaur, both residents of Khanna.

Blood donors honoured

A blood donation camp was organised by the Government College for Girls, Sector 42, here under the aegis of the Rotary Blood Bank Society today. The camp was inaugurated by Mr Rajan Kashyap, Chief Information Commissioner, Punjab, and presided over by the college Principal, Ms Inderjit Kaur.

Vande Mataram to be sung in schools, colleges on Sept 7
Chandigarh, August 23
To give a befitting finale to the year long commemoration of hundred years of adoption of ''Vande Mataram'' as the National Song which started on September 7, 2005, and will be coming to a close, the Administration has decided that the first two stanzas of the Song will be sung simultaneously in all schools, colleges and other educational institutions at 11 am on September 7 this year.

Student Centre of Panjab University is becoming a haven for drug and substance abusers. A team of Chandigarh Tribune found that its bathrooms were being used to consume cough syrups and other drugs by students.
