Rain damages radar at Mumbai airport
Tribune News Service

Mumbai, June 3
Arrivals and departures at Mumbai airport have been affected for the past three days after a heavy downpour damaged the radar system, according to information available from the Airports Authority of India.

Sources confirmed that the downpour affected the localiser installed on the main runway of the airport. However, Wednesday's rains damaged the equipment installed on the ground level as a result of which the coverage of the radar was affected.

In the heavy downpour of last July, the Mithi overflowed into the runway damaging the localizer and other equipment. Since then, the localizer was upgraded and the AAI said air services would see a marked improvement in the current monsoons.

Though its three days now, air services connecting Mumbai continues to get thrown out of gear as the equipment is yet to be fully restored, officials said.
