Boys bag top positions in plus two exams
Anurag secures 96.8 pc in commerce, Anuj 93.6 in arts
Chandigarh, May 23
This year it were the boys who bagged the top positions in the city in the different streams of the Class XII CBSE result which were declared today morning. All toppers have secured more than 90 per cent. The toppers this year have secured more than the toppers of the last year.

Mehak Dhande who topped in the medical stream (93.2 per cent), Anurag Sangar in commerce (96.8 per cent) and Anuj Malhotra in arts streams (93.6 per cent) celebrate with their parents after the declaration of Class XII results by the CBSE in Chandigarh on Tuesday.

Commerce achievers dominate in Panchkula

Rahul Kaushal After failing to clear his class XII CBSE examination, 17-year-old-Rahul Kaushal, the only son of his parents, ended his life by consuming a pesticide at the family’s Sector 22 residence in Chandigarh soon after seeing his result on the website of the CBSE this morning.

Twins spell double celebration
Chandigarh, May 23
It was double celebration for a few in the city after the class XII CBSE results were declared this morning. Making their parents proud were two set of twins who secured more than 90 per cent in their class XII examination.

Despite consent, CM fails to attend union’s meeting

A last-minute cancellation of his scheduled programme by the Punjab Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, irked members of the Chandigarh-Punjab Union of Journalists (CPUJ) here today and created a controversy.

Army observes liberation of Tithwal Day

The Liberation of Tithwal in Jammu and Kashmir was commemorated by the Army and the civilian population of Tandhdar. It was on May 22, 1948, that Tithwal was wrested from the control of Pakistani raiders.

Dy Mayor’s wife denied bail
Chandigarh, May 23
In a significant development, the Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ), Mr B.K. Mehta, today denied bail to Ms Harneet Singh, wife of the Deputy Mayor, Mr H.S. Lucky, in a case of theft of clothes from a Sector 17 garment shop. The interim bail earlier granted to Ms Harneet by another the ADSJ, Mr RS Baswana, ended today.

Parallel OPDs swell as docs continue stir
Chandigarh, May 23
Patient rush at parallel OPDs in PGIMER continued as the protest by striking medicos against reservation entered the ninth day here today. While resident doctors participated in a scooter rally to religious places, the relay fast, started by medicos at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, entered its second day.

Docs unrelenting

Dismissing the formula on reservation worked out by the Union Government, medicos of the PGIMER; the General Hospital, Sector 16; and the GMCH-32 tonight said their strike would continue till the demands of a complete rollback on reservation were met.

The netball girl players, who have been toiling in the 20-day camp being held at Mount Carmel School, Sector 47, here, are in high spirits. Since the game has been included in the Commonwealth Games and will be a part of its 2010 edition in Delhi, the players could get a chance of being recognised at the international level. Expressing happiness over the development, Panchali Tatke, a former international netball player, said, “ The Netball Federation of India (NFI) is preparing a long term plan for the big event but at the moment we are concentrating on the forthcoming 5th Youth Asian Championship to be held in Bangalore from July 24 to 31.
