Govinda booked for assault
Tribune News Service

Mumbai, December 23
The Juhu police has booked actor-turned MP Govinda for assaulting and threatening a television journalist at his office.

According to the police, reporter Shweta Ranjan of Janmat television channel filed a complaint of assault against Govinda yesterday. The reporter alleged that she had gone to Govinda’s office for an interview after which she got into a tiff with the actor. She stated that Govinda had threatened her two camera persons and seized the tapes in which the interview was recorded, the police said.

While booking Govinda for threatening and assaulting, Deputy Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta stated that the offences were non-cognisable in nature.

Govinda later apologised for the incident.

The reporter later told journalists here that she had interviewed Govinda for about an hour. However, he got angry when asked about his pictures with Dawood and became abusive. She alleged that Govinda’s brother Kirti Kumar threatened her with a revolver.

“When she asked about the pictures with Dawood, I said the matter was closed. When she insisted, I told her that I could not cooperate with her,’’ the actor said.

‘‘I wished to see what they had shot already, but she accused me of taking away the cassettes from the camera persons,” Govinda said.
