Road to Aman Setu damaged
Srinagar, October 13
A 10-km stretch of road between Uri and Kaman bridge (Aman Setu) that forms a vital link on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, has been badly damaged during the recent quake. Its restoration work may take about two months to enable bus service between the two sides.

Troops crossed LoC, but didn’t rebuild bunkers
New Delhi, October 13
The Army said today that although its personnel had crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector in response to a request for help from Pakistani soldiers, but did not help in reconstruction of any bunkers damaged in the earthquake there.

The devastating earthquake in Pakistan and parts of India has thrown the upcoming schedule of India-Pakistan talks on several bus services out of gear as both the neighbours are focussing squarely on rescue, relief and rehabilitation works. India is all set to launch the next phase of its quake diplomacy when it sends 82 tonnes of quake relief material to Pakistan tomorrow, this time by train.

Capt’s no to CBI probe into Intranet case

“We are open to an inquiry by the Enforcement Department into the Punjab Intranet case,” says the Punjab Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, rejecting the demand of the Shiromani Akali Dal for referring it to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

In the first such incident in Jammu and Kashmir, a female suicide bomber blew herself up near a place of worship at Awantipora in south Kashmir's Pulwama district this morning, a CRPF spokesman said.

On their little faces is a bewildered resilience, a stoical acceptance that belies their age. But it is a veneer that crumbles suddenly when the painkillers can no longer hold off the searing pain from broken bones. And they cry, heart-rendingly, and no one can do anything about it. They are the child victims of Saturday’s quake, lying on the beds at the Government Hospital for Bone and Joint in Srinagar.
