Gandhiji’s life story on mobile

New Delhi, October 1
Mahatma Gandhi's life story on mobile phones and a global peace march led by former world heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield will be part of celebrations for the 136th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation tomorrow.

Vignettes from Gandhiji's life from the Dandi March to the Quit India Movement will be available on the Reliance mobile throughout the country.

Holyfield, who arrives specially for the event, will be joined by about 5,000 persons for the peace march at the Rajghat organised by the Global Peace Initiative.

The main function will be held at the Gandhi Smriti on 5 Tees January Marg. Prayers, singing of patriotic songs by school children and readings from the holy books of different religions will mark the occasion.

Spinning of charkha and all-religion prayers will also be held at the Rajghat, the samadhi of Gandhiji.

A Shiite organisation in the capital said it would observe the day as 'Vishwa Shanti Diwas'. Prayers will be organised for world peace, said Shia Point President Zaheer Zaidi.

Different organisations will honour social workers on the occasion. Politicians and corporate leaders will join a prayer meeting at the Talkatora indoor stadium.

Youth Congress activists will commemorate the birth anniversary by undertaking pledges to strive for a better society. Several Congress leaders are likely to attend a cleanliness drive by the Youth Congress activists in the capital.

The Delhi Assembly will pay homage to Gandhiji at the Old Secretariat where Speaker Prem Singh, Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit and ministers will pay floral tributes to the 'Dandi March' statue of Gandhiji in the precincts of the secretariat.

Leut Governor B.L.Joshi will inaugurate a blood donation camp and an eye camp at the Sant Parmanand Hospital in Civil Lines tomorrow morning. A concert for peace will be organised by the Dhrupad Mission Society to commemorate the birth anniversary. — UNI
