Nayagaon rape case: Arora to head SIT

Chandigarh, October 1
The Punjab Government has posted Inspector-General of Police Suresh Arora as the new chief of the special investigating team (SIT) probing the Nayagoan rape case. The Director-General of Police, Mr S.S. Virk, issued orders to this effect here today.

Mr Arora replaces Mr Sumedh Singh Saini, also an IG. Mr Saini had written to the Punjab and Haryana High Court asking that he be relieved from the SIT since his DGP had not backed him.

Mr Arora, who is posted as IG, Headquarters, will do the work of the SIT in addition to his present duties.
