Govt clears armed forces tribunal
Tenure of woman pilots extended
New Delhi, September 29
The government today cleared the constitution of an armed forces tribunal that will exclusively deal with the service related problems and grievances of the officials of the Army, Navy and the Air Force.

Nationwide strike hits transport, banks

Life was affected in most parts of the country today as airports, banks, insurance companies, docks and public sector undertakings were hit by a general strike called by Left-backed trade unions.

The Indian Navy today said that some of its key officials posted at the Naval Operations Directorate here had been found “culpable” of leaking out classified information for commercial interests.

14 FCI employees given compulsory retirement, 86 suspended
Patiala, September 29
As the CBI and the Union Ministry of Food have started taking samples of rice procured by the Food Corporation of India from its godowns in Punjab after complaints of substandard quality were received, Mr T.C. Gupta, Senior Regional Manager, FCI, Punjab, has ordered compulsory retirement of 14 employees and suspension of 86 others for the lapses.

Farmers disrupt rail traffic

On the call of the Sanjhey Kisan Manch farmers blocked rail traffic for nearly three hours here today. The Amritsar-Shatabdi Express and Shan-e-Punjab trains were stopped at Manawala rail crossing.

The Punjab Government is to set up fast-track courts to deal with cases of corruption registered by the Vigilance Bureau, including those against the former Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, and several of his ministers.
