44 dead in bus mishap

Jammu, September 29
Fortyfour pilgrims, most of them women, were killed and an equal number injured when a bus carrying them skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir this evening.

The bus was on way to Tatapani pilgrimage centre from Anantnag when it met with the accident at Munjal-Chater, 170 kms from here, the police said.

The injured were admitted to hospitals where the condition of some of them was stated to be critical. — PTI

Sensex shoots to 8,650 points

Mumbai, September 29
Sensex today touched new heights breaching the 8,700 mark though the markets closed slightly lower. The benchmark BSE Sensex today gained 44.14 points to close at 8,650.17 points while the Nifty closed at 2605, up 7.5 points.

Easing crude oil prices worldwide and sustained inflows from FIIs continue to sustain the bullish mood in the bourses, analysts said. — TNS
