NCW scheme for rape victims

New Delhi, September 17
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has proposed a scheme for providing relief and rehabilitation to rape victims.

Announcing the proposal to mediapersons here today, NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas said the draft Scheme entailed grant of relief ranging between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 lakh to rape victims.

The draft scheme would be presented to the government on Monday. In mooting this scheme, the commission has acted on a Supreme Court directive for creating a national rape victims assistance Fund with budgetary allocations from the Centre.

Probe into rape on train

New Delhi, September 17
The Railway Ministry has ordered a high-level inquiry into the gangrape of a girl in a running train in Jharkhand on Tuesday and suspended several railway officials. Railway Minister Lalu Prasad ordered the inquiry today. — UNI
