India, Pak to free 1,100 prisoners on Sept 12
New Delhi, August 30
India and Pakistan today took a significant step forward in addressing the humanitarian issue of prisoners by agreeing to release all fishermen and
civilian prisoners on September 12, decided to meet again to sign a Memorandum of Understanding
on the social menace of drug trafficking, but failed to cut much ice on the political issue of signing an Extradition Treaty.

MP for consular access to Indians

The Indian Government should seek consular access to all Indians languishing in Pakistani jails and pursue their case as vigorously as Sarabjit Singh’s.
In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Rajya Sabha MP from
Punjab, Ashwani Kumar said a large number of Indians, many from
Gurdaspur district, were languishing in Pakistani jails, and New Delhi
should “secure consular access to all our citizens now in Pakistani
jails.”
Indian diplomats meet Sarabjit, say he is in good health
Islamabad, August 30
Sarabjit Singh, facing death in Pakistan, today gave his personal details, circumstances under which he was arrested, tried and convicted, to two Indian High Commission officials who met him at the high-security Kot Lakhpath jail near Lahore.
