The uncertainty and confusion over BJP President L.K. Advani’s continuing on two posts — as party head and Leader of the Opposition — at the alleged insistence of the RSS dictated principle of one-man one-post ended today with the party backing him and maintaining that the Sangh had not told him to give up the post.

SC strikes down illegal migrant Act in Assam

The Supreme Court today struck down the Illegal Migrant (Determination by Tribunal) Act applicable to Assam for identification and deportation of unauthorised Bangladeshis, which was fraught with serious political overtones for the state, specially ahead of the coming Assembly elections next year.

Brushing aside US pressure, India and Pakistan today agreed to move fast on the $ 4.5 billion Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project, aimed at partially fulfilling the energy needs of the Northern India and Pakistan in the coming years.
