VARSITY ADMISSION: Guru Nanak Dev University has invited applications for admission under the NRI quota for all courses at its local and regional campuses in Jalandhar and Gurdaspur till July 20. Meanwhile, the interview scheduled for July 13 for admission to MSc (physics) and MSc (applied physics) courses under the NRI quota has been postponed.The university has extended the last date for the submission of applications for admission to MA (sociology) till July 15 . The entrance test will be held on July 19 at the department.

Hoshiarpur
KATCHA WELLS: Mr D.K. Tiwari, District Magistrate , has banned the digging of katcha wells in the district without the written permission and supervision of Executive Engineers (Rural Water Supply), Punjab State Tubewell Corporation and Water Supply and Sewerage Board. The ban will remain in force up to September 7, 2005.

DONATED: As many as 400 handicapped students were given tri-cycles, wheel chairs, hearing aids and artificial limbs under the Sarva Shikhsa Abhiyan. The function was organised by ALIMCO, a Kanpur-based company with the help of the Department of Social Justice, Punjab.

MATERNITY BENEFIT: At a district-level function dedicated to the World Population Day here on Monday 25, women were given cheques of Rs 500 each under the National Maternity Benefit scheme. Dr Balbir Singh, District Family Welfare Officer, Dr Lakhbir Singh Randhawa, SMO of the local Civil Hospital, and others spoke on the occasion.
