Hindustan-Tibet road washed away at several places
Rampur, June 27
An unprecedented rise in temperatures — reaching upto 33 degrees in this area — seems to have caused the ice caps in this remote Himalayan region to melt thus rapidly bringing down torrents of water causing devastation in these areas in the last 24 hours.

It was Parechu breach; threat subsides

The flood threat due to the Parechu lake in Tibet, which kept the people living along the banks of the Sutlej on tenterhooks for the past over a year, seems to have subsided.

Flash floods in Parechu river has exposed the flaws in the disaster management system prevalent along the river course and the Himachal Pradesh Government is only thanking its stars as the damage would have been collossal had the flooding taken place during night.

8 pc growth unachievable by 2007, says PM

(NDC) began here today with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying in no uncertain terms that the economy would not achieve 8 per cent growth as was originally projected.

Govt against adding Bommai case judgement to Article 356
New Delhi, June 27
Despite the last meeting of the Inter-State Council (ISC) favouring that safeguards provided in the Supreme Court judgement in Bommai case be suitably incorporated in Article 356, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has ruled out amendment, saying that the judgement itself will be adequate.

It’s monsoon!
New Delhi, June 27
The monsoon hit Delhi well on time today and also touched Chandigarh and parts of Haryana and Punjab as it advanced further westward and northward.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also came out with a heartening forecast that the probability of the monsoon turning out to be normal this year was very high.
