Flood alert in Doda, Leh

Jammu, June 27
A flood alert was today issued in Doda and Leh districts of Jammu and Kashmir in view of increasing level of water in the Chenab and the Sindh.

There is an apprehension of flood in the Chenab which can cause loss to the life and property of the people living near the banks of the river, an order issued by the district administration Doda said today.

It said water level in the Chenab had been increasing following expeditious melting of snow due to extreme hot temperature.

Accordingly, the people residing near the river and also those who graze their cattle on river sides have been alerted to remain vigilant in this behalf and adopt precautionary measures for the safety of their life and property.

The police authorities have been asked to make arrangements for round the clock patrolling along the river banks so that the concerned people are timely shifted to safer places, the order said.

Reports from Leh district said District Development Commissioner Satish Nehru today conducted on the spot inspection of various areas in view of the flood threat there.

Mr Nehru said he inspected all flood affected areas of Leh town and its vicinity and directed the executing agencies to take all possible measures to protect the property and human lives. — PTI
