Hoshiarpur
KILLED: Two young brothers were killed when an undefined vehicle hit their motor cycle near the Gignowal bridge on the Hoshiarpur-Tanda road here on Tuesday. According to police sources, Pawan Kumar and Balbir Singh, sons of Tirath Ram of Dashmesh Nagar, Tanda, were going to home. A case has been registered.

INSTALLED: Dr R.C. Garg has been installed as state president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA-Punjab) and Dr Shamsher Singh Manna and Dr H.S. Nagpal as vice-presidents for 2005-06. Dr Garg exhorted members of the association to rededicate themselves to uphold dignity of the medical profession.

Ludhiana
Summer camp
: Members, dependents and children of Sutlej Club will have great time this summer as the club executive has decided to organise a month-long “Dhoom”, a summer camp, on the club premises from June 1. The camp will comprise a variety of events and activities under the guidance of experts.

Inaugurated: Dance school Rajeswari Kala Mandir was inaugurated on the campus of Alpine International School on Tuesday. Students of Rajeshwari Kala Mandir presented on dances on various songs.

Camp: More than 800 patients were examined and medicines, free of cost were provided to them at a medical camp organised at Government Ayurvedic Dispensary in Jodhan village, near Ludhiana on Tuesday. A team of doctors and supporting staff, led by Dr Surjit Singh Kataria, medical officer, Government Ayurvedic Dispensary at Dhaul Kalan, examined the patients. Dr Jawahar Lal, District Ayurvedic Officer, said more camps would be held at Government Ayurvedic Dispensary at Bassian village on June 6 and an ayurvedic dispensary near Dandi Swami in the city on June 9.

Clerk shot at
: A Railway parcel clerk was allegedly shot at in the Cantonment railway station this afternoon. The parcel clerk, Sarvmitra Trehan, who was on duty at the cloak room, noticed a bag. A RPF constable opened the bag near the cloak room and found a few documents and a country-made pistol inside it. While he was handling the country-made pistol, it accidentally went of and the parcel clerk sustained bullet injury in his stomach. A case has been registered.

Suicide: A Havildar allegedly committed suicide in his unit located within the Cantonment on Monday. Havaldar, Poonam Singh of an AD regiment, apparently shot himself at 11.15 pm. He belonged to Beawar in Rajasthan. 

Fatehabad
ELECTED: Ms Usha Chaudhary was elected president of the local Municipal Council on Tuesday. She defeated Ms Ritu Chaudhary by a margin of three votes. Ms Sunita Sharma defeated Mr Ram Kumar Jangra for the post of vice-president of the council. Mr Atma Singh Gill, Member of Parliament, and Mr Dura Ram, MLA, were present at the meeting. The election was held in the local Municipal Council office.

Sonepat
KILLED: Satyavan, a resident of Adhyapak Nagar, Nangloi (Delhi), was killed in an accident on the GT Road near Munyari village, 16 km from here, on Tuesday. According to a report, the victim was going in a mini-truck towards Karnal when it collided with another truck. A case has been registered.

Sirsa
POSTPONED: Election for the post of chairmanship of the Zila Parishad has been postponed. The election was scheduled for Tuesday. The Presiding Officer-cum-ADC, Mr Pankaj Yadav, had gone on leave. New date of polling was not announced. Elected members of the INLD criticised the state government for delaying the poll deliberately.
