Phagwara, April 28
Two members of a police control room (PCR) patrol party, identified as Pargat Singh and Daljit Singh, were suspended this evening by the Deputy Superintendent of Police here after they reportedly left behind their Sten gun in a gurdwara last night. The suspension has been ordered for negligence.

Earlier in the day, the SSP, Kapurthala, Mr Arun Pal Singh, had ordered an inquiry against the PCR men for their negligence as they had left behind their Sten gun in Gurdwara Chhati Patshahi shortly after midnight.

It was in the wee hours today that a sevadar of the gurdwara, Gurcharan Singh, noticed the Sten gun in the gurdwara complex. It created a scare among members of the “sangat” who had come to the gurdwara for the morning prayers.

The “sevadar” brought the matter to the notice of gurdwara management. The gurdwara authorities, after concerted efforts for about three hours, were able to locate the owners of the weapon. It was alleged that a PCR patrol party had been to the gurdwara as a part of its routine check.

The PCR men had reportedly taken tea in the gurdwara after having some rest and left the gurdwara complex without the weapon. The gurdwara authorities informed the Sadar police station and a policeman was deputed to the gurdwara. By the time the policeman could enter the gurdwara, the PCR men also reached there at about 4 am and took away the weapon.
