Chandigarh, March 25
Banks will remain closed in Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and parts of Jammu region on account of Holi on Saturday. But all banks in Punjab will function normally.
Disclosing this here today, a senior State Bank of India official said that the bank holiday for Holi has been declared under Section 25 for the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. He clarified that the Banks in Haryana and Punjab functioned on Friday, whereas those in Chandigarh were closed on account of Good Friday.
The Tribune had inadvertently mentioned in its report yesterday that the banks in Haryana would be closed today on account of Good Friday. The error is regretted.
A Punjab Government spokesperson said Punjab observed a holiday for Good Friday and Holi today. Punjab has not declared any holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act, thus all banks in Punjab would function normally on Saturday.
