General merchants give memo to MLA

The General Merchants Association today submitted a memorandum to the Ambala cantonment MLA, Mr Devender Bansal, over a number of issues.

3 injured in firing
Rewari, March 25
Three persons, including a shopkeeper, were injured in firing between two rival groups in the market at Kosli, about 35 km from here, yesterday. The injured have been identified as Kuldeep and his driver Rakesh and shopkeeper Dinesh Kumar.

Trucker, helper go missing
Hisar, March 25
A local truck owner, Mr Jagdeep Singh, who had gone to Siliguri and was expected to return home by March 19, has reportedly gone missing. His son, Gagandeep Singh, has lodged a complaint with the Civil Lines police in this regard.

Constable killed as jeep overturns
Sonepat, March 25
Rajpal, a Delhi police constable, was killed and five others were injured when a jeep carrying them overturned on the Sonepat-Gohana road near Tihar village, about 20km from here, today.

General merchants give memo to MLA

Ambala, March 25
The General Merchants Association today submitted a memorandum to the Ambala cantonment MLA, Mr Devender Bansal, over a number of issues.

The association demanded that there should be total withdrawal of the VAT system of taxation in Haryana till Uttar Pradesh and the states ruled by the NDA too opted for this system and Form 38 should be abolished.

The memorandum states that at least one member from the trade should be made a member of the grievances committee. Also, a special package for senior citizens should be considered by the government. “The proposed special package of facilities for senior citizens includes free bus rides in Haryana, no house tax and no water tax for lone seniors. The pending cases of senior citizens should be taken up on a priority basis in all courts,” the memorandum states.

The association members have demanded that discriminatory clauses like the NOC should be withdrawn and the Sadar area record of General Land Record should be transferred from the Cantonment Board office to the MC Sadar office, Ambala cantonment. The members suggested that there should be one-way traffic in Ambala Sadar.

They demanded that there should be formation of municipal corporation for Ambala city and Ambala cantonment. “Declare Ambala cantonment as a backward area and instal a solid waste management plant,” they stated.

3 injured in firing

Rewari, March 25
Three persons, including a shopkeeper, were injured in firing between two rival groups in the market at Kosli, about 35 km from here, yesterday.

The injured have been identified as Kuldeep and his driver Rakesh and shopkeeper Dinesh Kumar.

Rakesh, whose condition was stated to be critical, has been referred to a Delhi hospital while Kuldeep has been hospitalised here.

Dinesh Kumar was discharged in the evening yesterday. One group was led by Vikas Yadav of Tumbaheri village, near Kosli, while the other was headed by Kuldeep of Bawa village.

Kuldeep, along with his companions, came to Kosli yesterday in connection with a case pending in the SDM’s court. Members of the other group confronted them in the market and a scuffle ensued.

On the basis of a complaint filed by Kuldeep, the Kosli police has registered a case of rioting and attempt to murder under Sections 148, 149, 307 of the IPC and the Arms Act against Vikas Yadav and six others.

Vikas Yadav has been arrested, while in his other accomplices are at large.

Vikas Yadav was reportedly being hounded by members of the rival group. He hide himself in the shop owned by Dinesh Kumar, who was later hit by a bullet.

Trucker, helper go missing

Hisar, March 25
A local truck owner, Mr Jagdeep Singh, who had gone to Siliguri and was expected to return home by March 19, has reportedly gone missing. His son, Gagandeep Singh, has lodged a complaint with the Civil Lines police in this regard.

Mr Roop Chand, helper accompanying the trucker, is also missing. He is a resident of the Patel Nagar locality here.

Gagandeep, an MSc (chemistry) student, said his father owned a truck (Hr-38-F-7025) and used to drive it himself.

He said his father left for Siliguri on March 7 with a truckload of mustard oil. He was expected to return by March 19, but has not turned up till date. Neither has he called up his family ever since he left for Siliguri, he added.

Gagandeep maintained that they waited for some time and made efforts to locate his father, but to no avail. Finally, they lodged a complaint with the police. So far, they have received information that his truck had reached Bareilly a few days ago.

Mr Gurmeet Singh, a brother of the missing trucker, has gone to Bareilly in search of his brother. He told The Tribune on phone from Bareilly that he would soon meet the IGP there and apprise him of the matter.

The district police chief, Mr Arshinder Singh Chawla, said the matter had come to his notice and investigations were on.

Constable killed as jeep overturns

Sonepat, March 25
Rajpal, a Delhi police constable, was killed and five others were injured when a jeep carrying them overturned on the Sonepat-Gohana road near Tihar village, about 20km from here, today.

According to a report, the police has registered a case against the jeep driver and sent the body for a post-mortem examination.

Rajpal was going to Delhi for joining duty. His native village is Pinana village in the district.

In another incident Mr Anand Lal of Kheri Manajat village was seriously injured when he was hit by a vehicle on the G.T. Road near here today. He was taken to the local Civil Hospital where he was given first-aid and referred the PGIMS, Rohtak.

Two youths were seriously injured in an accident on the G.T. Road near here last night. The injured have been referred to the PGIMS, Rohtak. The police has registered the case in this connection.

One held in rape case

The Kundli police today arrested a youth, Sunni, in connection with the alleged rape of a class XII girl near Paio Munyari village.

According to a report, the youth, whose native place is Bhagalpur (Bihar), had been employed in a factory.
