ADC cut to trigger fall in call rates
New Delhi, January 6
Consumers can look forward to another round of rate cuts in telephone tariffs with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today recommending a substantial reduction in the Access Deficit Charge (ADC) from February 1. The Access Deficit Charge is a levy imposed upon private telecom operators which is paid to the state-owned service provider BSNL for funding its operations in rural areas.

Capt fears  RSS takeover of PU Senate
New Delhi, January 6
The Panjab University in Chandigarh is in the throes of a controversy for allegedly packing its Senate with RSS activists. Dismayed by the announcement of the new members of the Panjab University Senate in the media, state Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has sought expeditious Central intervention in the matter through Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh.

The two-day Panj Darya Media Conference hosted by the Chandigarh Press Club in collaboration with the Lahore Press Club started on a promising note with the participants hoping that the two-day deliberations would help the media promote people-to-people friendship that would in turn ease tensions and clear suspicion and distrust from the minds of the people in both countries.
