Congress postpones meeting of poll panel
Gurgaon, December 24 The Manifesto Committee of the party is also tipped to meet on the same day. According to the acting leader of the Congress Legislature Party in the Haryana Assembly, Capt.Ajay Singh, the decision to shelve the meeting was to enable enough time to the members of the Election Committee to have clear picture of the aspirants for party ticket for the coming Assembly elections. The agenda for the meeting of the Election Committee is to prepare panel of names from all assembly segments. The panel will be finally sent to the Screening Committee set up for the election in Haryana. The Haryana Congress is also fine-tuning its strategy to take on the ruling INLD and the BJP in the election. The party is trying to push in several items to be
incorporated in the manifesto relating to Haryana. The signifance the party attaches to the issues could be imagined from the fact that it has set up seven committees headed by senior stalwarts of the Haryana Congress to study and prepare reports on various areas. A strong section in the Congress, represented by the seniormost Congress MP from Haryana and former president of the state unit of the party, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, is strongly rooting for giving primal importance to farmers-related issues and also for equal distribution of the available pool of water in the state in the manifesto. This apart, the committee headed by Capt Ajay Singh will study on issues relating to alleged fiscal mismanagement by the INLD government. The committee headed by former minister, Sardar Harpal Singh, will study on gamut of issues relating to industry. |
Hooda calls for unity
Jhajjar, December 24 Mr Hooda, who represents the Rohtak constituency in the Lok Sabha, gave a call to his partymen be united, “as it was an appropriate time to give a befitting reply to the rival forces, which are behind such moves.” He was addressing party workers at Punjabi Dharamshala here today. Raising the issue of discrimination in the development of different regions, he said this region had lost out too much on account of the parochial attitude of the earlier government. “Despite being close to the national Capital, we are far behind as compared to other areas. This backwardness can be removed if we remain united in our struggle”, held Mr Hooda. The MP said that he was determined to get a due share of the development and the SYL water for the region. Launching a scathing attack on the INLD rule, the Congress leader maintained that corruption touched the highest mark in this government which unleashed atrocities on every section of society. “The problems of unemployment and poverty will automatically be solved once corruption is weeded out”, claimed the MP, adding that this regime which had no regard for democratic values, must be ousted. Earlier, Mr Raghubir Singh Kadian, MLA from Beri and DCC chief, urged the party workers to attend the proposed party rally on January 3 in Rohtak. He asked the ticket aspirants to videograph the cavalcade of their supporters while going to attend the rally as it could be helpful in getting the ticket. The party workers observed a two-minute silence to pay obeisance to former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao, who died yesterday. |

Cong fabricating news reports, alleges INLD
Chandigarh, December 24 The secretary-general of the INLD, Mr Ajay Singh Chautala, told newsmen here that the working president of the Haryana Congress, Mr Randeep Surjewala, first falsely accused him of distributing appointment letters to about 200 JBT teachers in the Narwana rest house. Denying the allegation, he said that day he was in New Delhi. Mr Chautala said his party was fully prepared to contest the forthcoming Assembly elections. The national president of the INLD, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, who had been authorised by the state executive of the Haryana unit of the INLD to finalise the party candidates, would announce the names of the candidates after ascertaining the views of party workers at an appropriate time. He said a massive rally, Nav Sankalp, will be held at Bhiwani on January 2, 2005. In order to prepare the party workers for the Assembly polls two training camps covering 11 districts had already been held. Two more such camps on December 27 and 28 would complete the exercise. Claiming an overwhelming response from the workers, he said that for each polling booth in the state there would be 10 youth workers on duty on the polling day. He said barring the Congress, any party desirous of sharing power with the INLD could be given a thought if it approached the INLD. However, the INLD was fully geared to meet the poll challenge on its own. Answering a question, Mr Chautala said his family had been contesting elections since 1936 and had been in the poll fray on 42 occasions. But for the Meham conspiracy, none of the elections contested by his family members had ever reported violence. However, the Congress leaders had been maligning the INLD to mislead the people of the state to gain electoral advantage. |
