Al-Qaida plans attack on UK London, October 31 There was a “substantial” threat against the military bases from international terrorists organisations, said the Sunday Telegraph, which claimed to have obtained the document, entitled “Security Update September 2004”. Horse Guards Parade, Wellington Barracks, and the Royal Guard Rooms in Buckingham Palace-all in central London-face a “severe” threat, the second highest danger level, it said. The document, marked “restricted”, had been distributed to all military garrisons in Britain, it said. “Credible reporting continues to indicate that the Al-Qaida and associated terrorist groups, intend to attack the western targets globally,” the report said. “Targeting against UK and US interests, both at home and abroad, remains a priority for the Al-Quida. The UK remains a high priority for the group planning for terrorist attacks and it will employ a variety of attack methods to breach the physical security measures,” the document said. It also warned military service personnel that there was a “real” threat against identifiable servicemen , the Sunday Telegraph said. —
