WELCOMED: The coordination committee of paramedical and health employees, Punjab, here on Sunday welcomed the decision of the government to reinstate Dr Geeta Sharma as officiating principal of Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot. She was earlier suspended by the government.

SURRENDERED: Manjit, alias Ghungri, and Satish Kumar, co-accused in the Saudagar Ram Kala murder case, surrendered before the district police here on Sunday. Mr Charanjit Singh, DSP, said they had been booked under Section 120-B of the IPC. The main accused, Bitti, was still at large.

RELIEF FUND: The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Ranjit Singh, handed over a cheque for Rs 34,39,302 to the Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, on behalf of the district administration for the CM Relief Fund. The CM, who was here on a personal visit, accepted the cheque in the presence of Rana Gurmit Sodhi, Chief Parliamentary Secretary (Sports and Youth Affairs), Mr Hans Raj Jossan, Minister of State for Forests and Mr Gurnaib Brar, former MLA.

THEFT: The “golak” of the Sitla Mata Mandir was stolen here on Saturday. The golak was found abandoned in a dry pond nearby. However, the cash was missing.

ORGANISED: The local unit of the Bharat Vikas Parishad organised a dental check-up camp in the District Jail here on Sunday. The camp was conducted by Dr Kaushal Luthra, Dr Sarita Luthra and Dr Ekta Goyal. As many as 108 jail inmates were examined. Medicines were given free of cost.

CLUB: An entertainment club for senior citizens will be set up in Mahesh Nagar (Chhabiana), Ambala Cantonment. Mr O.P. Sharma, a resident of Mahesh Nagar, said the entertainment club would have games like chess, carrom and cards, and newspapers also. He said a community hall was available for the purpose.

FAIR: A seven-day Red Cross Fair is being organised on the occasion of Divali by the District Red Cross Society, Mandi. Mr Ali Raza Rizvi, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the Red Cross Society, told mediapersons that the fair would be held from November 7 to 14. A cultural night would also be organised on November 6.
