NDFB chief on Interpol wanted list
Our Correspondent

Guwahati, October 25
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has categorically stated that he would not soften his government's stand against the NDFB despite its October 14 ceasefire offer.

His government, Mr Gogoi said, has in consultation with the Union Home Ministry sent a letter to NDFB Chief D.R. Nabla, now in Bangkok, to let him know the names of NDFB representatives to begin talks for a negotiated settlement to restore peace in the region.

Whatever be the peace process, NDFB chief D.R. Nabla, alias Ranjan Daimari, which organised violence in the state between October 2 and October 5 in coordination with ULFA, killing 40 persons and injuring over 100, is still a militant sought by Interpol. Interpol issued notice against D.R. Nabla in 1997.

The Interpol profile of D.R. Nabla lists him as a postgraduate in political science, who has undergone rigorous arms training and is also well-versed in guerrilla warfare. He is also described as a man who conspired with the NSCN to mount an armed movement to cede Assam from the Indian Union.
