Four sentenced to death

Nainital, June 28
A district court today awarded death sentence to four youths for raping and murdering a six-year-old girl.

The district court Judge, Mr R.K. Sharma, describing the case as “rarest of rare” said the four deserved death penalty because the girl involved in the case was a minor.

“This is a case similar to Dhananjoy Chatterjee, whose petition is pending before the President for clemency. This case is also equally heinous,” the Judge said.

The prosecution had charged that on September 25, 2003, the four — Babu, Amir, Pawan and Arjun - picked up the minor daughter of a Nepalese labourer from the Tallital locality of Nainital and raped her in a deserted area and later strangulated her to death. — PTI
