Sikh panels ask Badal to snap ties with
BJP
Jammu, May 22 Addressing a joint news conference here today Mr S.S.Wazir, former President Gurdwara Prabandhak Board, Mr Mohinder Singh, chief adviser, Bhai Kanhiya Nishkam Sewa Society, Mr Paramjit Singh, president AISSF, and Mr Narbir Singh, president Youth Akali Dal, said that in case Mr Badal snap ties with the NDA he would do disservice to the country in general and the Sikh community in particular. The Sikh leaders said that by electing a leader from the minority community as Prime Minister the Congress had atoned the sins it had committed during 1984 riots. Mr Wazir said Mr Badal should strengthen the secular and democratic traditions in the country by supporting the Congress which would amount to supporting a Prime Minister belonging to a minority community. “We will never forgive Mr Badal for not supporting Mr Manmohan Singh,” Mr Wazir said. The leaders described installation of Mr Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister as a victory for the country’s secular traditions and the entire
Sikh community needed to rejoice over it. They suggested to the Sikhs in the country not to do anything which could make the task of Mr Manmohan Singh in running the nation a difficult one. Mr Wazir said time had come when the Sikhs should dissociate themselves from the communal organisations like the BJP, the RSS, the Bajrang Dal, and the VHP. |
