From Ludhiana to Bikaner in support of Dharmendra
Ludhiana, May 2
A group of people from Ludhiana today left for Bikaner in support of filmstar Dharmendra who is contesting the parliamentary elections from there on the BJP ticket. Led by Mr Ram Singh of Lalton village, the 13-member group includes his son Randhir Singh and others of the village.

Sehajdhari Sikh body to support Cong

The Sehajdhari Sikh Federation, a registered political party with the Election Commission, has extended its nationwide unconditional support to the Congress and announced that it will stand by the party nominee Manish Tewari in Ludhiana.

Airtel warned against issuing  connections without verification
Ludhiana, May 2
The district police has directed Airtel company to stop issuing mobile phone connections without taking the proper identity and addresses of persons as the police was unable to trace the callers who were using their mobile phones in criminal activities.

Dry cleaners allege  harassment by bank
Ludhiana, May 2
The Punjab Dry Cleaners and Dyers Association has charged around 12 designated branches of Punjab National Bank with causing harassment to their members by not accepting challans of service tax payment under the Central Excise rules.

Bhandari is teachers’ body chief 
Ludhiana, May 2
Prof V.K. Bhandari of Arya College, Ludhiana, a candidate of the Brar-Jugwant group defeated Prof Jagmohan Singh, a candidate of the Hundal-Tiwari group by a margin of 26 votes, and was elected president of the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union. A total of 78 votes were polled.

Inter-school painting contest
Ludhiana, May 2
An inter-school painting competition was organised at NIIT here. Students from DAV Public School BRS Nagar, DAV Public School, Sarabha Nagar extension, GNIPS, Model Town, GNIPS, BRS Nagar, Baba Ishar Singh N. Senior Secondary School and Sacred Heart High School, BRS Nagar, participated in the contest.

Maruti owners take part in car rally
Ludhiana, May 2
Maruti Udyog Limited today organised ‘Maruti Suzuki Wheels of Fortune’ car rally for the Maruti owners. The rally was flagged off early in the morning by the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, Mr S.K. Sharma, from the Sarbha Nagar market. About 150 Maruti car owners participated in the rally.

31 cricketers shortlisted after trials
Ludhiana, May 2
Fortyfive boys (u-13 year) turned out for the trials, conducted by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) at the Arya College for Boys grounds here today. A four member panel of selectors — Mr Chaman Lal Malhotra, Mr Lokesh Khanna, Mr Naresh Marwaha and Mr Pawan Pandey — shortlisted 31 players, who would be enrolled with the regional coaching centre being run by the LDCA under the aegis of the Punjab Cricket Association.
