New war doctrine by September

The Army is all set to come out with a new war doctrine so as to meet the emerging security challenges and evolve suitable strategies with greater stress on mobility and adaptability. The draft of the war doctrine, which is likely to be in place by September has been prepared by the Shimla- based Army Training Command. It was tabled during the five-day Army Commanders’ conference, which concluded here today.

The Chief of Army Staff, General N.C. Vij, while addressing the top commanders gave certain directions regarding the proposed doctrine and asked them to examine it, Additional Director-General (Public Information) Maj-Gen Deepak Sumanwar told reporters here.

He, however, refrained from disclosing the details as the doctrine was classified. Sources, however said, that the war doctrine emphasised the need for having self-contained flexible forces comprising all the three services and achieve the military objectives in the shortest possible time.

The doctrine also stressed on the factor of achieving synergy and jointmanship between the Army, Air Force and the Navy and exploit their assets for the desired goals keeping in view the nuclear 
scenario.

Giving out the other highlights of the meet, General Sumanwar said the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the ongoing anti-insurgency operations and the strategy for the summer months for the state were also reviewed by the Commanders.
