INLD to contest in Rajasthan, Delhi & UP
Gurgaon, April 2 A meeting of the office-bearers had been convened on April 5 to choose candidates for Rajasthan, he told mediapersons here after addressing election rallies. Taking exception the Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani’s statement that people should vote for the Congress if they did not like BJP, he said “BJP leaders and Advani should desist from making such irresponsible statements as the nation might sometimes have to pay the price for such statements made by the people holding high offices in the country. Advani’s remarks had not only undermined the interest of the regional parties, but also injured the feelings of voters of these parties, he said. Ridiculing the BJP’s ‘feel good factor’, Mr Chautala said it was for the wealthy people only and for the common man. “As far as the common man is concerned it was nowhere to be seen, as the rising prices of essential goods like LPG, cement, steel and diesel had made it difficult for the poor people to make both ends meet,” he said terming it as a political gimmick. Continuing his attacks on Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani, Mr Chautala today described him as a political. Comparing Mr Advani with former Haryana Chief
Minister Bansi Lal, Mr Chautala said they were political “turncoats” who changed their statements everyday. — PTI/UNI |

Water dispute erupts between Haryana, Delhi
Chandigarh, April 2 The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has alleged that the water level in the Wazirabad pond had gone down because Haryana was not supplying the full share of Delhi. Haryana, on the other hand, has accused the DJB of lifting water from the Wazirabad pond unauthorisedly through the Sangam pump house for the Bhagirathi water treatment plant. An official spokesman of Haryana said the state had been releasing 600 cusecs of water through the Munak escape since March 16 last and the specified water level was maintained in the Wazirabad pond till March 28. However, the level started falling on March 29. Haryana increased the water supply from 600 cusecs to 700 cusecs. However, the level receded further following the continued unauthorised pumping of water by the DJB. Haryana lodged an official protest on March 30. He said during the past week the water availability in the Yamuna and the inflow in the Gobind Sagar was reduced to 55 per cent and 70 per cent, respectively, of the normal availability. Most of the Yamuna water was being diverted to Delhi to meet its drinking water requirement, with practically nothing left for Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The Supreme Court had directed Haryana in February, 1996, to keep the Wazirabad pond full. The spokesman said Haryana had been complying with the order and supplying water to Delhi much in excess of its share allotted under the MOU on sharing the Yamuna water. He alleged that to meet the increased drinking water requirement, Delhi started diverting water from the Wazirabad pond by taking shelter under the Apex court order. Haryana had taken up the matter with the Upper Yamuna River Board. It had also placed the facts before the Supreme Court. |

It was alleged in the application that Mr Nain was trying to provoke farmers in the state by issuing provocative statements for the past one month. It added that Parliamentary elections had been announced and such statements had threatened peace in the state and were in violation of the court’s directions. The police urged the court to cancel the conditional bail of Mr Nain immediately. |
