However, as soon as the meeting commenced he informed the members that he would quit his post soon since he intended to contest the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat as Indian National Lok Dal nominee. He said this was the last meeting of the EC he was chairing though he did not indicate when he planned to quit. Immediately after the Financial Commissioner and Secretary Education, Mr M. L.

Bhagwan, vice-chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University and Mr M. K. Miglani, vice-chancellor of Haryana Agricultural University as members of the search panel. A suggestion by certain members that the vice-chancellor of Delhi University also be included in the panel was turned down by the council. It was decided that the two names be sent to the Chancellor who would nominate one more member of his choice on the panel which would recommend three names to the state government for appointment as VC. However, it is learnt that the new VC would be appointed only after the Lok Sabha poll since the code of conduct was in force.
