5 gold spades donated for ‘kar seva’ at Golden Temple

Amritsar, March 23
Five gold spades and as many silver bowls have been presented by Bank of Punjab through its chairman Darshanbir Singh and others to launch the historic ‘kar seva’ of holy tank of the Golden Temple on March 25. The kar seva will be inaugurated by five Sikh sants, including Baba Jagtar Singh of Tarn Taran, Baba Harbans Singh of Delhi, Baba Labh Singh of Anandpur Sahib, Baba Seva Singh of Khadoor Sahib and Bhai Mohinder Singh of Nishkam Sewak Jatha from Birmingham the (UK), in accordance with Sikh traditions.

Meanwhile, Mr Paramjit Singh Sarna, president of the SAD (Delhi), urged the government to exempt road tax on buses coming from other states like Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pardesh for the kar seva.

The first kar seva was undertaken on June 17, 1923, by Baba Sham Singh of Atta Mandi, Amritsar, Sant Gulab Singh Gholia (Moga), Bhai Fateh Singh, Head Granthi, Golden Temple, Baba Kharak Singh, the then SGPC President, and Teja Singh Sammudari.
