CM comes down heavily on BJP

Addressing a series of public meetings at Nihri Bagsiad and Karsog in the district today the Chief Minister, Mr Virbhadra Singh, came down heavily on the previous BJP government for retarding the pace of development in the state.

Liquor shops’ auction fetches Rs
1.28 cr more

Nahan, March 23
Liquor shops in Sirmaur district were auctioned here today peacefully. It fetched Rs 1.29 crore more as compared to last year.

CM violating poll code: Dhumal

Awahdevi (Hamirpur), March 23
The senior BJP leader and former HP Chief Minister, Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal, today criticised Chief Minister and other ministers for violating the model code of conduct during elections. These persons were touring the constituencies in official vehicles and to garner support for the official candidates.

Mr Dhumal said this while addressing a massive rally here today. Earlier, he inaugurated a private colour laboratory. Pyere Lal Sharma, the district BJP Chief, Udho Ram, Member Zila Parishad and Narendra Atri, former president of the HP University Students Central Association were also present.

Mr Dhumal exhorted people, especially the youth to repose their faith in the BJP in the coming elections. He alleged that the Congress had befooled them by not giving them jobs as promised in the party’s election manifesto.

Earlier, hundreds of people garlanded Mr Dhumal on his reaching here. He also visited the temple of Maa Awahdevi and paid obeisance there and sought her blessings for the victory of party in the elections.

Addressing a series of public meetings at Nihri Bagsiad and Karsog in the district today the Chief Minister, Mr Virbhadra Singh, came down heavily on the previous BJP government for retarding the pace of development in the state.

Earlier, he told newspersons at Sundernagar that Mrs Pratibha Singh or any other member of his family had no intention of contesting parliamentary election from the Mandi seat, despite pressure from various party forums.

Liquor shops’ auction fetches Rs 1.28 cr more

Nahan, March 23
Liquor shops in Sirmaur district were auctioned here today peacefully. It fetched Rs 1.29 crore more as compared to last year.

The liquor shops were auctioned for Rs 10.34 crore.

The highest bids were recorded from Sarahan and Rajgarh blocks. In these blocks an increase of over Rs 50 lakh was recorded. — OC

Man commits suicide

Kumarhatti, March 23
A peon of Government High School, Nand Lal, committed suicide by shooting himself, last night. Nand Lal was an alcoholic and had an argument with his wife when he reached his home in Bangol village, about 20 km from Subathu, around 10 pm yesterday. Following this, he shut himself in a room when his wife went to the kitchen, shot himself in the chest died on the spot. — OC

Minor girl abducted

Kangra, March 23
The police has registered a case of abduction of a minor girl of Doohak village against Raj Kumar of Jaroat village that fall under the Jawali police station of this district. Police parties have been despatched to trace the girl, the police said here today. The district police chief said Mr Kishori Lal of Harcheckian last evening lodged a report of abduction of his minor daughter alleging that Raj Kumar had abducted his 17-year-old daughter Neelam on Saturday from Doohak village. A case had been registered, he added. — OC

Child dies in mishap

Kangra, March 23
An 11-year-child was killed on the spot and 20 passengers of a Ludhiana-bound bus were injured, including two critically injured, when it fell into a 25-foot deep gorge following a head-on collision with a car on Pathankot-Jalandhar national highway at Damtal in the district this evening, the police said here today. The dead was identified as Pummy of Gartiwala village. The seriously injured, including a woman, had been referred to the PGI, Chandigarh.

HAMIRPUR: Eighteen persons were injured when their truck met with an accident near Panoh village in Hamirpur district on Tuesday. The truck was carrying pilgrims was overloaded.
