Moscow, December 3
Russia has said the price negotiations for the sale of Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier to India have not been finally settled even as Indian Navy Chief Madhvendra Singh said yesterday that the price negotiations had been completed.
At least three issues remained “uncoordinated” at negotiations on the sale of Gorshkov to India, Itar-Tass news agency reported quoting a high official in the Russian Defence Ministry.
The two sides “have not coordinated the final sum of the contract, supplies of some foreign-made armaments for the cruiser and related changes in the ship systems,” the source stressed.
“The Indian proposal to equip the cruiser with air defence systems made in a third country was somewhat unexpected for Russia,” the official pointed out adding that installation of a foreign-made missile system “will inevitably cause problems of its compatibility with ship combat controlling systems.”
Earlier reports said India planned to equip the aircraft carrier with Israeli Barak missiles.
