Inter-state gang of robbers busted

The police today busted an eight-member gang of robbers that operated at marriage functions and recovered stolen gold and silver ornaments, besides some watches from them.

13-year-old boy abducted
Ludhiana, December 3
Sunil Kumar (13), son of a migrant from UP, was reportedly abducted by some persons from Sherpur Kalan yesterday. The Focal Point police has registered a case under Section 365, IPC, on the statement of the boy's mother Samiterra Devi, who hails from Gorakhpur district of UP and now lives in Rajiv Gandhi Colony. No arrest has been made so far.

2 kg opium seized
Ludhiana, December 3
Dehlon police claims to have arrested two persons and recovered opium from them. According to a press note released by Mr M.S. Chhina, SSP, Jagraon, ASI Charanjit Singh and Jaspal Singh who were on patrol duty on Lehra Butahari road spotted two scooterists near Nangal Road and seized 1 kg opium from each of them.

City to have Sify Video conferencing

Sify Limited yesterday launched its video conferencing service, branded ‘iMeet; at its iWay chain of cyber cafe’s across the country (including Ludhiana). The service has also been launched at Chandigarh, Jalandhar and Amritsar.

Home science students counselled on stress

A workshop on women’s rights and counselling was held at the College of Home Science, Punjab Agriculture University, today to celebrate World Human Rights Day. The workshop was held by psychologist Manmeet Grewal and human rights activist Preeti Kansal.

Prosecution cell proves effective
Ludhiana, December 3
A special prosecution cell, set up by district police here for the proper follow-up of the court cases, has settled as many as 21 cases during one week from November 24 to November 29. Out of these cases, 17 were convictions with a rate of 81 per cent.

Returning officers for Bar poll appointed
Ludhiana, December 3
Even as the sitting District Bar Association (DBA) president, Mr Harish Rai Dhanda, has decided to abstain himself from the forthcoming annual elections of the DBA, the decision to appoint returning officer and assistant returning officer for conducting the elections indicates that Mr Dhanda still commands a hold on the legal fraternity. Both persons were appointed with the choice of the Dhanda group.

Responding to the news published in the Ludhiana Tribune on November 28, many good Samaritans have come forward to help Amrit Pal Singh (4), a patient of encephalocele. They said they had decided to help Amrit after knowing about his condition through the Internet edition of the paper.

Tiny tots of BCM School hold athletics meet

The kindergarten section of BCM School organised the first annual athletics meet of tiny tots of nursery today in the school. The Principal, Mrs Paramjit Kaur, presided over. As she declared the meet open, a bunch of colourful balloons moved up to the sky followed by a cultural item and an oath-taking ceremony.
