Vajpayee to make statement in LS on Judeo episode
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, December 3
The government today acceded to the Opposition’s demand that Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee should make a statement on the Judeo episode in the Lok Sabha. However, as the PM will be abroad over the next few days, he will make the statement only next week.

At the same time, Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi has sought a factual statement on both Judeo incident and the CVC-PSU issue from the Cabinet Secretariat. It is on the basis of this information that the Speaker is expected to decide on the fate of the Opposition-sponsored adjournment motion on the corruption issue.

According to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj these decisions were taken at a meeting of the Lok Sabha’s Business Advisory Committee (BAC) today. The decisions had met with the Opposition’s approval.

As regards the Opposition-sponsored adjournment motion on corruption, she said the Speaker was yet to decide on its admissibility.

His final decision, she said, would be based on the factual statements on the Judeo episode and the CVC-PSU issue.

She said the House would instead take up the recent incidents of violence in Assam on Friday.

The Telgi stamp paper scam would also be taken up for discussion next week, Ms Swaraj said, adding that it was agreed that the debate took place in the presence of the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister.
