Govt trying to hush up case against minister, says BJP Shimla, November 29 Mr Randhir Sharma, a spokesperson of the BJP, today released a copy of the questionnaire sent by the then Director-General of Police, Enforcement and Vigilance, on February 7, 2003 to Mr Ram Lal to seek details of the sources of his income which enabled him and members of his family to repay loans of Rs 41.50 lakh he raised between 1985-2002 the period after joining politics. He said per his information Mr Thakur, who became a minister, had not bothered to respond to the questionnaire and the vigilance agency was not pursuing the matter after the change of the government. He said in the questionnaire it was pointed out that the loans had been mostly repaid in cash, which caused suspicion regarding the sources of his income. More so because no Income Tax return had been filed during the period at any of the Income Tax offices at Shimla, Mandi, Solan and
Bilaspur. Mr Thakur was asked to reveal if he had filed a return elsewhere. He said if Mr Thakur had replied to the questionnaire it should be made public along with the progress of the inquiry. Mr Sharma said that the clarification given by Mr Thakur regarding the alleged move to revert prime land worth crores to an influential individual by shifting the wood work production centre of the state Handicraft and Handloom Corporation in Paonta Sahib had created doubts and strengthened the suspicion of a shady deal. He wanted to know whether an individual who had been given land on lease could sell it off. Further, if the individual concerned was the rightful owner of the land then he was not supposed to provide alternative accommodation to the corporation. The very fact that the corporation was asking him to provide suitable alternative accommodation with electricity and water connection indicated that a deal was being struck. More importantly, the individual concerned happened to be the counsel for an important accused in the Sagar Kattha case in which Mr Virbhadra Singh, Chief Minister, was also facing trial. |

Naldehra to be brought on world tourism map Shimla, November 29 A favourite haunt of Lord
Curzon, it has great potential to attract high-end tourists as it is one of the few places which still has its pristine splendour, with surroundings largely unspoilt by modern constructions. All that is required is proper maintenance of the nine-hole course, which is missing at present. Mr Anand, who has been made a member of the board of directors of the HP Tourism Development Corporation, said the assignment was an opportunity to put his dream to make Shimla a tourist destination for the elite. He added that he felt that with world-class hotels like the Wildflower Hall and the Oberoi Cecil the focus must shift from mass tourism to class tourism. One way to do this was by having events like international golf tournament and vintage car rally, he added. Mr Anand said he would soon submit a detailed plan for the tourism industry to Mr Virbhadra Singh, Chief Minister. |

People here alleged that several poachers have become active in the area since the arrival of the birds. They are busy capturing these. Winged creatures with nets, they reportedly sell the meat of these birds and charge Rs 300 to Rs 400 per bird.
