Ambala Diary AMBALA:
After a long time, officials of the Ambala Air Force Station have won the appreciation of local residents. Thanks to Air Commodore LK Malhotra, new Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station here, the air show was received well by the local populace. The very fact that an air show was being held after such a long time showed that efforts were being made by the officials concerned to win the hearts of the locals. Schoolchildren from different schools immensely liked the air show and many students seemed to be eager to join the Air Force as fighter pilots. The children were keen that more such shows should be held at regular intervals. Such air shows not only help in improving the image of the Air Force but also inspire the youth to join the elite force. Shakuntalam Samman The Principal of GRSD Senior Secondary School, Ambala city, Mr S Kashyap, was recently honoured at a national-level function held in New Delhi. Apparently, the ‘rehri’ owners have managed to prevail upon the authorities concerned to let them continue to do business from where they are located. Otherwise, there is no reason why they should not be cleared from the busy area near the main bus stand. The ‘rehris’ not only continue to spoil the environs, they also clog the roads leading to traffic bottlenecks. Local residents recall that the situation was not so bad a few years ago. They say when Inspector Banwari Lal was the in charge in Ambala Sadar, he ensured that there were no encroachments. While Inspector Banwari Lal managed to keep the streets free of encroachments, the initiative now seems to have been put on the backburner. Taekwondo skills Master Lee, chief technical director of the Taekwondo Federation of India visited Darshan Academy on GT Road. He was accompanied by Mr SK Sabharwal, vice- president of the federation, and Mr Vinod Kumar, general secretary of the federation. Master Lee hails from Korea.
