Doc, radiologist held on corruption charge

The Vigilance Bureau today finally detected rampant corruption at the Civil Hospital here, where some hospital employees used to take bribe and tamper with the medical examination report of patients, which were required for booking accused under various sections of the IPC.

Drive to issue birth certificates
Ludhiana, October 20
The district is all set to implement the national campaign to issue birth certificates to provide the document to all children below the age of 10 years who do not possess the certificate. In this context, District and Sub Division level Co-ordination Committees headed by Deputy Commissioner and SDM have been set up.

Hosiery season yet to pick up

Although the festival season is in full swing, the hosiery season is yet to pick up. The hosiery industry which was once a seasonal industry has become a round-the-year industry, thanks to the rapid diversification of the same. The industry which was originally restricted to woollen knitwear like pullovers, socks and mufflers has now been converted into a knitted industry which deals in readymade garments.

Parks’ maintenance back to contractors

The maintenance of parks in the mega city has once again been entrusted to private contractors as the Finance and Contracts Committee (F&CC) has accorded its nod to the bids offered for more than 400 parks in different localities. For almost two years now, the city parks were in a state of neglect after all of the 128 PMCs had gone defunct over an imbroglio on rates for maintenance.

Police seeks information from telecom authorities

The district police has given a week’s time to the local telecom authorities for providing information about a mysterious caller, who alleged drove an IAS aspirant, Ashish Hansi, to commit suicide.

Two held for boy’s murder
Mandi Gobindgarh, October 20
The body of Nishan Singh (13), also known as Sunny, was found by the police on Sunday. This was stated by Mr B. Chander Shekhra, SSP, Fatehgarh Sahib, at a press conference held here today. He said Vinod (16) and Surjit (11), also known as Chhotu, had been tenants of Gurdial Singh, a resident of Amloh road area, Mandi Gobindgarh, for the past five years.

Girl abducted, case registered
Ludhiana, October 20
On a statement of Mr Baldev Singh, a resident of Assi Kalan village, the Sadar police yesterday registered a case under Sections 363, 366 and 420 of the IPC against Avtar Singh, a resident of Bhai Ki Pashaur village in Sangrur district. The complainant alleged that the accused abducted his niece on October 16 from the village. The accused also managed to take away gold ornaments, cash and a mobile phone.

Exhibition on Indian clothing concludes

Grapevine, a two-day exhibition of Indian clothing, concluded at the Sutlej Club recently. The clothing on display included exclusive range of sarees, suits and dress material. There was a perfect blend of Indo-western style and integration of old and new under one roof.

Farmers urged to adopt new techniques

“Farmers will have to adopt new techniques to improve the quality of products with minimum inputs in agriculture and dairy farming to compete with the global competition,” said Mr Darshan Singh, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry Department, while addressing farmers at a one-day camp here yesterday.

Date for filing IT returns extended
Ludhiana, October 20
The Central Board of Direct Taxes has extended the last date for filing income tax returns for corporate sector assessees and other persons whose accounts are required to be compulsorily audited under Section 44 AB of the Income Tax Act. The date has been extended from October 31 to November 30.
