Patiala, October 10
Daler Mehndi’s statement that he had dissociated himself from his brother Shamsher may prove to be his undoing with Shamsher today recording a statement that he used to manage his brother’s tour programmes and was recently conducting talks for a programme being organised by Kiran Bedi’s daughter at Talkatora Stadium in Delhi.

Meanwhile Daler’s wife Daljit Kaur today filed an application in the Sessions Court seeking anticipatory bail saying she feared she would be implicated in the case. The application said Daljit did not have any relation with Shamsher as her husband had issued a public notice dissociating himself from his brother. The application also pointed out that Daljit had not been named in the FIR and that she should be granted anticipatory bail on these grounds. It will come up for hearing tomorrow.

The Patiala police, which is already investigating the role of both Daler and Shamsher’s wives in the human trafficking case has also started examining whether Mika also ran jointly with his other brothers. Patiala SSP Paramraj Singh Umranangal said evidence which had been collected till now seemed to indicate that the brothers were running a joint business but said this was still to be proved conclusively. He said the bank accounts of the brothers would be further examined.

Sources disclosed that Shamsher was singing in police custody. They said during questioning Shamsher had said that he used to book and arrange the tour programmes of his brother. Shamsher has given details of a programme booked by him on October 4 at Jaipur. According to statement of Shamsher he used to first hold discussions with interested parties and then send them a detailed proposal which included the fee as well other details of the visit.

According to Shamsher he had recently held negotiations for organising Daler’s show at the Talkatora indoor stadium in Delhi on October 24. The show is being held for charity jointly by Pavitrata, an NGO, which is led by Syna Bedi, daughter of Kiran Bedi, and Hope International.

Besides this Shamsher had earlier admitted that while 10 persons were left abroad two times in 1998 and 1999. Now this figure has increased by another five. The details of these persons could not be known.

The compact discs seized by the Patiala police from Delhi and which were played at a local police station after engineers were called in have revealed that Daler Mehndi and his brothers had done a business of around Rs 44 crore. Besides this the discs reveal some telephone numbers which the police is also likely to look into to ascertain the other business interests of the brothers.

Shamsher is slated to be presented in a local court tomorrow as he had been remanded in police custody till October 11. The police is likely to seek an extension of the police remand.
